Pay Per Click - What is it and how can it benefit my business?

What is pay per click?

Pay per click is one of the best ways to reach customers in modern online advertising. The strategy is in the name itself. You are paying for every click on your website.

Essentially, you'll be bidding on keywords which are search term phrases that people use on Google, Bing, or even Yahoo. These search terms will ideally be related to your business directly. You'll bid on the terms according to the competition.

For example, the search term injury lawyer will essentially be worth a lot more than the terms "How much does a lawyer cost". The reason is that the person searching for an injury lawyer might be someone ready to sign a contract and hire a lawyer. On the other hand, the second key phrase could signal that the person behind the search does not have buyer intent. For this reason, it is safe to assume that the second phase would be worth considerably less.

How to start pay per click?

So now that you have the search phrases ready, its time to figure out the budget. You can set a daily budget and Google will automate the advertising so that you won't be going over your budget. Also, you won't have to pay for advertising up front as you'll be billed after the month is over, allowing you enough time to turn those clicks into customers and to allow the advertising to pay itself.

You can also create different ads so that you can find the ones that work for your business the best. For example, one ad might have a high CTR which is click through rate. It is basically the percentage of people who view the ad as opposed to those who actually click on it.

The goal of any AdWords campaign is to get more people clicking to the site for the lowest cost possible.

You can also select the demographics for your ads to appear to. Let's say you wanted to target ages 20-30 living in new york city. You can have your ads only show to people who fit those criteria. To break it down further, you can also market to people who have already clicked on your ad. This is called remarketing and its an advanced tactic when it comes to PPC. Basically, you can have your ads show up on websites that are affiliated with Google. These ads will try to bring back visitors who were once on your website but left.
